The MMM HQ Membership Charter

Hello potential coworkers!

This is evolving document, just so potential members know what they are getting into, before requesting to join.

What is MMM HQ?

It’s a community space run by and for US, the members. The goal is to get some work done on our personal projects, but also to help each other, and hopefully the greater Longmont community and the world by putting our brainpower together.

What is it NOT?

It’s not a formal retail space or a traditional coworking business where you are the customer and we are the vendor. Although we HQ owners will be funding the building and its maintenance, I’m hoping we can all chip in time when we’re around to keep the place tidy, empty the trash bins or vacuum the floors when they need it, bring ideas and spare materials and lend spare tools, etc. Sharing with the other members is what will really make this place fly!

Because HQ coworking is run entirely by “retired” people, we try to avoid specific commitments and obligations. So, there are no fixed working hours or permanent staff. We may not be able to address every issue immediately, but so far in these first years of operation, things have gone pretty smoothly. As subscribed members, you’ll have access to the building on your own schedule, which helps make up for the lack of regular workers.

With that disclaimer aside, hard work is my favorite thing to do, so I think it should go well.

Payment:

The dues are $450 per half year (with a $120 discount for annual memberships). You can pay a full year in advance by check, or you can pay by automatic deduction via Paypal!

Either one of us can cancel the agreement at any time and I’ll refund any unused balance if you like. But to make room for truly interested people and build up a strong group community, I ask that you only join if you’re fairly committed to staying a full year. Just the honor system here – no contracts of course!

Disclaimer and Release of Liability:

By using MMM HQ facilities and anything within, you assume sole personal responsibility for your own safety. If you drink too much from the keg and hurt yourself, or lightning strikes the building, or you hurt yourself at home with a piece of borrowed equipment, or heck, even if you fall off the roof or the roof caves in on all of us, you agree not to sue me or any other member, ever. We’re all adults here and we are working together in a trusting relationship. If you don’t agree, the simple answer is not to become a member!

Many thanks and see you here!

Hi Pete. I’m an out-of-towner interested in participating/donating via your “Patron” offer. My wife and I are talking about re-locating to your area (she’s a librarian, and she loved visiting the Longmont public library). We are in the process of selling our home in the suburbs of Kansas City, so we should know more about our future plans soon. The sale of our home is one of the last phases of our own early retirement process. My wife intends to keep working (she loves the library!), but I’d like to shift my focus to more worthy causes and happy-filled days. I love what you have going on there at MM WHQ, and I have a background in innovation working as an “Imagineer” at Hallmark Cards. Let me know if you are interested in having me as a Patron, and perhaps some day an in-person member/contributor. *** Note: I don’t brew beer, but I have invested in a a home distilling operation, and one of my hobbies is producing small batch craft spirits (mainly whisky). That might make a good addition to the craft beer you plan to stock ;)

    Thanks!

    Kevin

As a UK lawyer I am not familiar with USA law of course. I just urge you to check, if you already haven’t, that you can contract out of liabilities for accidents, torts etc. You can’t always do that in the UK. Sorry if you have already done this. You might need insurance though, just in case!
Anyway, I am a big fan and I wish you well. Sounds great.

I had the same thought. Protect yourself MMM! Keep doing what you are doing, and I hope to join you someday. Just make sure you have the insurance in place in case you accidentally get a terrible person in your space.

Just wondering did you end up using Shopify or Paypay to handle payment processing?

Hi Bruce – turns out that PayPal has a pretty good “recurring payments” feature that makes it easy enough to handle a small group like this (under 100 people).

With a larger membership of thousands, you’d want to do something more advanced – either developing your own little application to access the Paypal API directly (if possible), or doing the same thing on another platform like Shopify.

Hi—I’m interested in coworking space. There was an email address listed, but damned if I can find it again. Sorry.

I’ve recently left a pretty standard Boulder corporate gig at PS Audio, maker of stereo equipment, and will be working remotely for a music-management software company called Roon Labs. My household includes daughter/son-in-law/granddaughter and two dogs—i.e., plenty of distractions. I’d like to find a space where I can occasionally shut the door and have quiet; not clear if you offer that.

I appreciate your approach—having worked here at a 6-figure job and barely broken even, I’m looking for rationalizing my life and getting ahead. I’m also looking for ground-floor space, as a long-ago life as a UPS driver left me with shit knees that make more-hipstery second floor coworking spaces useless for me. I’m also older than most—63—and have worked for a number of Fortune 500 companies, the Federal gov, and managed a medical-imaging facility. The last several years I’ve edited an online mag about music and audio, alongside standard PR duties.

So: I have a broader range of experience than most. I’d like to be able to contribute to the community, and check out yur space.

Let me know when that’s possible, willya?

    Thanks! —Bill/Leebs
